Colonialism and Architecture in Malawi


The just cause of development in many cases is to simplify man's acts. Thats the same reason machines were created. In my world of architecture, I view development as the act of managing to have all the necessary resources to come up with shelter that functions and appeals to the viewer.

This draws me to relate colonialism and infrastructure development in many areas; in short architecture of colonies. The question of whether architecture is related to colonialism can be answered almost by anyone and the answer would normally be YES there is a relationship. This goes a long way back in construction methods as those answering would relate the methods used by their forefathers and those that came immediately with the colonial masters.

It is worth mentioning though that, colonial buildings in Malawi and its consequent modernity structures can not be referred to the same in another country unless time is used. Thus the form and shape alone are not enough.
